Currently open positions
Dutch Teacher
2-4 sessions/week (every session is 1.5h)
We are looking to expand our our team of teachers with a motivated and enthusiastic Dutch native speaker who wants to lead our course groups
About our courses
We offer non-traditional courses. This means we don’t follow a grammar book. Instead, we use a range of comprehensible input based methods and activities that boost speaking confidence. The most important part of our course sessions is to give people confidence, motivation, and tools to learn on their own outside of the sessions. Also, we always encourage students to combine courses with our community events.
Our courses are usually small groups, of about 6-8 students. We offer 4 levels: Basics (1 & 2), Speaking Skills, and Dutch in Daily Life. For beginners, we focus more on knowledge of the essential vocabulary through input based method. For intermediates, we focus on specific skills (that are not grammar or vocabulary) that help transform basic vocabulary in real conversations. For more advanced speakers, our sessions are more like coaching sessions, where we motivate students to use more Dutch in their daily life.
Who are we looking for?
Since our courses are so non-traditional, it’s not needed to be a traditionally trained Dutch teacher. More important for us is that you:
• Believe in our philosophy of language learning
• Are energetic, encouraging, and able to create a fun, warm and welcoming atmosphere in the group
• Have experience teaching Dutch in some form
• Have experience leading groups or group based activities
• Are a good coach and motivator
• Able to speak clearly and match your Dutch to the level of participants
Practical matters
• Sessions are usually in evenings and weekends, although we do have some daytime sessions as well.
• Sessions are 1.5 hours with a bit of prep and cleanup after.
• Depending on availability and which groups fill up, you will be assigned course groups. The courses are generally 8 weeks, so you’ll do a set of 8 weeks, once a week per course group. Of course, you can always swap one or two sessions with another teacher if needed.
• Ideally you can do somewhere between 2 and 4 sessions a week.
• We want every teacher eventually to be able to do every level (from beginner to advanced)
• Expect more time investment in the beginning to learn the methods. Once you are familiar, not much preparation is needed for a session.
• A few groups are available soon (in january), more groups will be available a bit later.
What do we offer?
- A chance to be part of a social enterprise and make a real impact with an innovative language learning method
- A cozy community to feel at home (free community membership included)
- We generally pay around 3h of work per session of 1.5h, to take into account travel time and other overhead. We can offer both a contract, or, if you meet the requirements for the new DBA law rules, pay on invoice basis.
