As a volunteer, you get many Enthusiast perks for just €6 per month in exchange for helping out at DLC.
A note about the ‘Taalcoach’ role
You don’t need to be a professional teacher to be a taalcoach with us! However, we do ask that you follow our approach as set out in the house rules.
In a nutshell, this means keeping the atmosphere light, prioritising communication over perfection, and sticking to Dutch as much as possible. We ask that you simplify your language, speak slowly when necessary and use gestures instead of switching to English – even if your conversation partner reverts to English, you should continue in simple Dutch. You should also give others space and time to think and make mistakes.
Don’t worry, the first time you help out, one of us will be there to guide you. And if you find that this approach isn’t quite your cup of tea, that’s perfectly okay – feel free to give it a try, and if it doesn’t work out, you can always switch to another role or convert to a normal membership.
